The Genesis Block is the very first block of a blockchain.

Genesis blocks are usually mined by the originator or maker of the blockchain with subsequent blocks mined by miners.

An example of a genesis block is Bitcoin’s (BTC) Genesis Block (Block 0) mined by Satoshi Nakamoto with a blockhash of 000000000019d6689c085ae165831e934ff763ae46a2a6c172b3f1b60a8ce26f, mined on Jan 4, 2009 2:15:05 AM with a block reward of 50 BTC and a blocksize of 285 bytes [1].
